Brief History:
The Free Minds Project was established in 2006 in Austin, Texas, as a partnership between The University of Texas at Austin, Austin Community College, and Foundation Communities, an affordable housing non-profit. Since 2013 we have made our institutional home at Foundation Communities. Our classes are taught by UT and ACC faculty, and students earn their credit from ACC. We also partner with Creative Action, which offers an arts and leadership program to students' children that mirrors the curriculum used in the adult class. Our 100+ graduates remain involved with the program mentoring new students and attending ongoing alumni classes.
