Congratulations!

You did it! Graduating from a Clemente Course is a huge accomplishment, whether you finished last week or decades ago. We like to say, “Once a Clementine, always a Clementine.” Whichever program you participated in, you are part of a larger community that stretches from the East to West Coast of the U.S., from the American South to Canada, and even to partners in Europe and Australia. We invite you to participate in this larger community in the years to come.

And some ways to keep learning...

  • Special Lectures

Clemente HQ offers special lectures online for Clemente students & alumni throughout the year.

This year, you'll hear from Sashareen Morgan in the United Kingdom, former director of Director of the Social Mobility Commission.

    Past special lectures have included:

    • Environmental Humanities: Place, Race, and the Artist as Activist
    • Thinking with Du Bois in the 21st Century
    • Meet the Filmmaker: Screening and Discussion of ACCEPTED
    • Cultivating the Creativity Mindset:  Alumna Samantha Jordan Shares Her Story
  • Skill-Building Short Courses

    Facilitate Conversations

    • Strengthen your skills in planning and facilitating conversations on issues you care about within your organization and in the broader community. Equip yourself with new tools and resources and get people talking across differences about common challenges.  The course is taught by Dr. Adam Davis, Executive Director of Oregon Humanities and former professor in the Odyssey Project in Chicago. Participants who regularly attend the six classes and complete course exercises will receive a certification of completion in facilitation.

Shape Your Story for College and Career Success

    • How do we assess our strengths, stay true to ourselves, and make a convincing case that we belong at the college or job of our dreams? Study writers who tell their personal stories and explore how your story can be shaped for key audiences.  Hone specific writing skills for resumes, cover letters, and personal statements. Course instructor Laurie Filipelli is a former Clemente professor in Austin, writing coach, and author of two poetry collections and The Mighty Writing College Application Essay Guide.

    Special Topics

    • Recently, Clemente partnered with Antioch University on an NEH-funded project to offer a series of bridge courses for alumni.  These courses focused  on the theme of "Inflection Points," asking questions such as:  What change do you want to see in the world?  In a democratic society, what do we owe to each other?  How do the humanities prepare us to understand and interpret the inflection points  of our own time: war, racism, colonization, genocide, disease, environmental degradation, and political upheaval?
    • Past courses  included: Time, Memory, and Transformation: Restoring the Salish Sea;  This Land: Environmental Humanities; No Borderlands/Sin Fronteras; Civil Rights: No Silence Among Friends.
    • We look forward to offering more special topics courses in the future. Stay tuned!
